The Tree in My Backyard Is Tall and Strong
The Tree in My Backyard Is Tall and Strong began with attentive listening to a large tree in the garden outside my home. I recorded subtle changes in its acoustic environment: the movement of leaves and branches, insects, wind, water, and shifting weather conditions. The recordings were then digitally processed and organized into sound modules within a custom performance interface. Each module can be triggered, looped, layered, crossfaded, and adjusted in tempo and volume in real time. The work functions as both a composition and a playable system, allowing recognizable environmental sounds to be continuously rearranged and transformed during performance.
